Hello. This is haru.
The 'God of War Ragnarok' that I played is a work that shows a new leap beyond a simple sequel. While it sufficiently inherits the charm of the previous work, it stands out with new attempts and in-depth details in each element. In this review, I will introduce various aspects of the game, such as the story, battles, puzzles and exploration, graphics, and sound, along with my experience.
The game's story unfolds through the journey of Kratos and Atreus, set against the backdrop of Norse mythology. What I felt while playing was that it went beyond a simple adventure and the psychological changes and conflicts between the two characters were expressed very delicately. In particular, through the process of Atreus finding his identity, the player experiences the pain and joy of growing up together. The encounters with various gods and the resulting conflict structure increase the immersion of the story, and the individuality and background story of each character are also deeply dealt with.
The part that impressed me the most while playing was that it felt like experiencing an epic poem through the cinematic cutscenes and natural dialogue.
The battles in 'God of War: Ragnarok' are one of the elements that give great satisfaction to action game fans. Not only the flashy and intense combos using Kratos' Leviathan Axe and Blade of Chaos, but also Atreus' secondary attacks and skills add variety to the battles. What I felt during the battles was that each enemy's pattern and the boss's unique attack method demanded strategic judgment from the player, providing a tense battle experience where no mistake was allowed.
In particular, the boss battles were really fun to figure out the enemy's attack pattern and respond, and the sense of accomplishment that I felt at times was really great. Various weapon upgrades and skill trees can also be freely customized to suit your play style, so there was no time to get bored even after playing it repeatedly.
In this work, in addition to simple combat, puzzles and exploration elements have been greatly strengthened. Secret passages and environmental puzzles hidden throughout the map make the game world feel richer and encourage players to observe and explore carefully.
The pleasure felt every time a puzzle is solved, as well as the joy of discovering hidden treasures and side quests, are great fun elements outside of the main story. Of course, some puzzles were difficult and made it difficult to progress for a while, but I think that the challenging elements added depth to the game. In my own experience, the story expansion elements and additional items obtained as rewards after solving puzzles motivated the player to play.
God of War: Ragnarok takes full advantage of the PS5's performance to showcase stunning graphics. The snow-covered Midgard landscape, the natural environment with light and shadow, and the delicately realized character models make players feel real.
In battle scenes, the camera work and special effects combine to maximize the impact of the action, and the haptic feedback of the DualSense controller vividly conveys the tension and impact of the battle. The soundtrack also perfectly captures the atmosphere of Norse mythology, and the background music and sound effects that match each scene further enhance the immersion of the entire game. I remember being amazed at every moment when the music and sound blended with the situation while actually playing.
'God of War Ragnarok' inherits the excellent elements of the previous work, while also raising the level of perfection of the entire game with new attempts and detailed production. It leaves a deep impression on players in all aspects of story, battle, puzzle, graphics, and sound, and satisfies expectations for action and narrative.
Of course, some difficult puzzles and complex map configurations can be challenging, but I think that these aspects also increase the depth and replayability of the game. After playing it myself, I can definitely recommend this game to those who like the worldview of Norse mythology and the action adventure genre.
