Hello. This is haru.
Today, we will be talking about the developer of the masterpiece game series 'The Witcher' and 'Cyberpunk 2077'.
Let’s learn about CDPR. What kind of company is it that created such masterpieces? Let’s find out together!
CD Projekt Red (CDPR) is a game developer headquartered in Warsaw, Poland, and was founded in 2002. It originally started as a development studio for 'CD Projekt', which was founded in 1994, and after working in the game translation and distribution business, it jumped into game development itself. CDPR's first game, The Witcher (2007) , was a huge success in the Western RPG market at the time, establishing the company's position.
CDPR gained worldwide fame by developing The Witcher series based on the novels by Andrzej Sapkowski .
Cyberpunk 2077 , released in 2020 , is an open-world RPG set in a futuristic city. Although there was controversy over optimization issues at the time of its release, it has gradually improved in perfection through continuous patches and the expansion pack Phantom Liberty (2023) , and has received positive reviews.
CDPR is known for pursuing a free development culture and respecting the creativity of its employees. However, crunch issues arose during the development of Cyberpunk 2077 , and the company has been working to improve its working environment since then.
CDPR is also known as a company that maintains consumer-friendly policies in the gaming industry. It pursues a DRM-free policy and operates a digital distribution platform called GOG.com to provide gamers with a more free gaming environment.
1. New Witcher series
CDPR is planning a new trilogy in the Witcher series, the first of which is known internally as Polaris. The new series will feature a new story centered around Ciri, rather than the original protagonist Geralt. The team is aiming to make the game more immersive and ambitious by utilizing Unreal Engine 5. The game is currently in full development, and a release date has not yet been announced.
2. Cyberpunk 2077 sequel
The sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 is known by the codename Project Orion. CDPR plans to set a new standard for game scale and ambition with this title, including a more realistic and responsive crowd system than before. While they are currently focusing on The Witcher 4, they are also working on the groundwork for Project Orion. In particular, they are focusing on improving the AI and increasing the population density of cities to make it more suitable for open-world games.
3. Cyberpunk 2077: Animation and Live-Action Projects
CDPR will be producing new animated and live-action works to expand the world of Cyberpunk 2077. These projects are part of an effort to further enrich the game's story and characters through various media. However, there has been no mention of a sequel to the previously announced Cyberpunk: Edgerunner.
Through these various projects, CDPR is further strengthening its position in the gaming industry and striving to provide new experiences to fans.
CDPR is working on a sequel to The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077 , as well as plans to expand on existing franchises. In particular, they are preparing for a technological leap forward by adopting Unreal Engine 5 to develop a next-generation open-world RPG.
CDPR, which has steadily grown within the gaming industry, is likely to learn from past mistakes and create more solid games. With the new Witcher trilogy and Cyberpunk 2077 sequel expected, CDPR’s progress in the coming years will be of great interest.
